It seems that minimal futurism has officially left the building...for now. In the last few seasons, we have seen massive resurgences in inspirations from the past. Designers are rolodexing through each iconic decade while putting a current spin on what it had to offer. We’ve seen a lot of 90’s grunge counterculture displayed on the Fall/Winter runways but Spring/Summer has taken a eclectic leap backwards into the decadence of the 80’s.
Huge brands such as Balenciaga are steering the SS17 runway full forced into the 80’s with ultra bright mix-matching colors and shoulder-padded silhouettes.
Max Mara’s latest resort campaign even featured model Ysaunny Brito channeling a conservative yet striking Grace Jones.
Rodarte SS17 and Isabel Marant’s Spring RTW17 (in order) are bringing back the visually powerful texture of high-shine fabrics and bulky drapery.

Independent designer, Mooly, has created an accessible collection that portrays the very best of modern 1980’s influence. Every shimmering piece melds fun-loving boldness with tinges of sexy. This is what Molly Ringwald would wear if she was a Spice Girl.
